This is a speech given by Laila Harré, former minister in the New Zealand Labour/Alliance government, to the Campaign for the Welfare State’s national conference on hospital politics in Oslo September 8, 2003.
Prior to the WTO-negotiations in Hong Kong December 2005, 27 organisations, including national trade unions, all important peasant and rural organisations, and a number of other organisations, signed a common statement. Combined, these organisations represent more than 700.000 members, and the letter represents an important break-through in the building of a broad WTO-critical coalition in Norway. Erfaringene fra Skottland og New Zealand viser at det er mulig å komme ut av det uføret som sykehusreformen har ført velferdsstaten ut i. Men regjeringen må tørre å innrømme at markedsstyring av helsesektoren var et feilsteg, tenke nytt og ta tilbake sykehusene, sier daglig leder i For Velferdsstaten, Asbjørn Wahl.
Regjeringen har kun gjort den enkle fattigdomsjobben. Blant de viktigste og vanskeligste gruppen fattige, har ikke den rødgrønne politikken endret noe.

Modellkommuneprosjekt er et alternativ til privatisering og konkurranseutsetting. Ideen bak prosjektet er å bruke kompetansen og initiativet som finnes i den kommunale organisasjonen til å gjøre kommunens tjenester bedre. Modellkommuner er: Porsgrunn, Sørum, Moss og Steinkjer.
The Municipality project was initiated by the Norwegian Union of Municipal Employees (NKF). The project is an alternative to privatisation and competitive tendering. The idea behind the project is to use the skills, knowledge and initiative that we know exists in the municipal organisation for making the municipality’s services better.
