The Norwegian contribution to the annual Social Watch report 2003 is written by co-ordinator of the Campaign for the Welfare State, Asbjørn Wahl, and Gunhild Ørstavik in The Norwegian Forum for Environment and Development.
This is a speech given by Laila Harré, former minister in the New Zealand Labour/Alliance government, to the Campaign for the Welfare State’s national conference on hospital politics in Oslo September 8, 2003.
Prior to the WTO-negotiations in Hong Kong December 2005, 27 organisations, including national trade unions, all important peasant and rural organisations, and a number of other organisations, signed a common statement. Combined, these organisations represent more than 700.000 members, and the letter represents an important break-through in the building of a broad WTO-critical coalition in Norway. The Municipality project was initiated by the Norwegian Union of Municipal Employees (NKF). The project is an alternative to privatisation and competitive tendering. The idea behind the project is to use the skills, knowledge and initiative that we know exists in the municipal organisation for making the municipality’s services better.
